Apprentice Programs

Northeast is proud to have trained industry professionals for over twenty years. The apprentice programs are instructed by industry professionals licensed in their respective areas. Students can earn required Massachusetts apprenticeship, journeyman and continuing education hours in several trades.
Please review each course for specific information as some coursework reflects new changes in State regulations.

Apprentice Programs

Classes start January 8, 2013 unless otherwise noted in the course description.

Students may enroll for a half year or one full year during Fall or a half year during Winter/Spring registration. There is no full year enrollment during Winter/Spring registration.  All courses must be paid in full at the time of registration. No exceptions!

Our apprentice course instructors are experienced veteran teachers with many years of trade and teaching experience. Class instructors will be posted first night of classes.  

ELECTRICAL COURSES 
The Electrical Apprentice courses are designed to teach classroom instruction/theory and do not include any hands-on training.
Full Semester - 150 hours     $790
Half Semester - 75 hours      $440

Electrical – Level 1
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Electrical 1 will be an introduction to safety on the job, writing a job description, terms of the trade, basic electron theory, a review of math skills, DC Theory, energy and power, electrical conductors and wire sizes, batteries, magnets and magnetic fields. Also covered are generation of electromotive force, basic understanding of motors and generators, introduction into the code book, grounding and practical wiring diagrams and switching.

Electrical – Level II
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Electrical 2 will be a review of Electrical 1 and also covers series, parallel and series/parallel circuits, alternating current principals, AC theory, AC power, power factor and power factor corrections, and three phase services. Also covered are making use of tables in the code book, proper use of code book tables and formulas, and practice working on code questions in preparation for exams.

Electrical – Level III
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Electrical 3 will be a review of Electrical 1&2 and also a review of A/C theory, three phase calculations, series, parallel and their combinations, branch circuit calculations, feeder and service calculations and requirements, motor controls, low voltage systems and controls, review of Massachusetts code and Amendments, and learn various types of incandescent bases.

Electrical – Level IV
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Electrical 4 will be a review of Electrical 1, 2 & 3. It will also cover extensive code questions and code table review questions, review circuit problems for AC/DC and help prepare the apprentice for taking the electrical exam.

Electrical – Masters
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m. - 150 hours
This Master’s course is designed to include Electrical Contractors, Electrical Inspectors, and qualified Licensed Electricians. This course study will include AC/DC theory, leading and lagging circuits, DC and AC motors and controls, as well as demand factor calculations for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. National Electrical Code Review, estimating & Massachusetts Master & System Contractor, Business & Law, Feeder & Service Calculations, Electrical Bonding & Ground Path Theory.
Review of all subjects covered in 600-hour Journeyman Course and job safety.

Electrical Journeyman’s Prep Course     $315
Class starts Monday, January 28, 2013
Monday, 6-9 p.m. – 10 weeks
This course will help provided insight and understanding of the National Electrical Code. It is designed as a refresher for those wishing to take the Journeyman or Master examination. The course will include Electrical Theory, Calculations and in-depth use of the code book. Meets 237CMR17.00 requirements.

PLUMBING COURSES 
The Plumbing Apprentice courses are designed to teach classroom instruction/theory and do not include any hands-on training.
Full Semester - $790
First Semester - $575
Second Semester - $305

                         You must have a State Apprentice card in order to enroll in these plumbing classes.

Massachusetts General Law has mandated that beginning in September 2008 all plumbing apprenticeship training programs approved by the state, must meet the same standards, and follow a common curriculum. The new system will require 550 hours (110 hours each year) of classroom instruction plus 5 years on the job training.

Plumbing Tier I
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Introduction to plumbing: 10 hour OSHA safety card, materials, tools and methods, valves and devices, residential blueprints, math and definitions.

Plumbing Tier II
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Introduction to drains, waste and vents, allowable material, traps, clean outs, code, water supply, math, gas, blueprints and definitions.

Plumbing Tier III
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Advanced instruction in vents, drains, water, storm, gas fixture instruction, blueprints, and definitions.

Plumbing Tier IV
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m

Plumbing Tier V
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m

Plumbing Masters   
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m. - 110 hours
This course is comprised of the following topics: code review and update, blueprint reading, plumbing math, business math, OSHA laws relating to plumbing, State and Municipal Bid Laws and Procedures, gas code review, plan review, single line, and isometrics and sketching. This course is designed to cover all questions, which have been included in recent Masters Examinations. In addition, ADA (American Disability Act) requirements relating to the plumbing code are included.

Plumbers Journeyman's & Masters Exam Preparatory Course     $315 
Class starts Monday, January 28, 2013
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m. - 10 weeks
This course is designed to review all aspects of the plumbing code and related information necessary to pass the Plumbers License Exam.  Plumbing math, code, science, indirect waste systems, roof drains, gas piping and water distribution systems will be covered.  Hours can no longer be used toward State required hours.

OTHER APPRENTICE PROGRAMS 

Construction Supervisor's License    $525
Class starts Monday, January 28, 2013

Monday & Wednesday, 6-9 p.m. – 100 Hours
The purpose of this course is to prepare the student for the Massachusetts Construction Supervisor’s License Exam. The cost of the book is extra.

Construction Carpentry                            $790 Full Semester 
Only available in Fall                               $440 Half Semester/Fall Only
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
This course is for the student who desires to learn all the various aspects of the Carpentry trade.  The curriculum will include safety, use of tools, framing, stock selection, window/door installation, siding, roofing, decks, and more.  This class can be used for required MA State Apprenticeship hours.  No previous experience is necessary.

HVAC/Refrigeration Licensing Course     $790 per year
Only available in Fall
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m
This is a 2-year comprehensive training program for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning installers and technicians.  You will learn about air conditioning technology, refrigeration, electronics, heat transfer, and programmable controls.  150 hours will be in electrical code training.  Tuition fee of $790 is based on a one-year session.
