Apprentice Programs

Northeast is proud to have trained industry professionals for over twenty years. The apprentice programs are instructed by industry professionals licensed in their respective areas. Students can earn required Massachusetts apprenticeship, journeyman and continuing education hours in several trades.
Please review each course for specific information as some coursework reflects new changes in State regulations.

Apprentice Programs

Students may enroll for a half year or one full year during Fall or a half year during Spring registration.  There is no full year enrollment during Spring registration.

Full year   $775
Half Year (75 hours)  $425

Our apprentice course instructors are experienced veteran teachers with many years of trade and teaching experience. Class instructors will be posted first night of classes.

NOTE: All courses must be paid in full at the time of registration. No exceptions!

Construction/Building License – 100 hours  $465
Instructor: Ed Canney
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m. – 17 weeks
The purpose of this course is to prepare the student for the Massachusetts Construction Supervisor’s License Exam. (Cost of book extra)

Electrical – Level 1
Instructor: John Rescingo
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Electrical 1 will be an introduction to safety on the job, writing a job description, terms of the trade, basic electron theory, a review of math skills, DC Theory, energy and power, electrical conductors and wire sizes, batteries, magnets and magnetic fields. Also covered are generation of electromotive force, basic understanding of motors and generators, introduction into the code book, grounding and practical wiring diagrams and switching.

Electrical – Level II
Instructor: Stephen Hickey
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Electrical 2 will be a review of Electrical 1 and also covers series, parallel and series/parallel circuits, alternating current principals, AC theory, AC power, power factor and power factor corrections, and three phase services. Also covered are making use of tables in the code book, proper use of code book tables and formulas, and practice working on code questions in preparation for exams.

Electrical – Level III

Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Electrical 3 will be a review of Electrical 1&2 and also a review of A/C theory, three phase calculations, series, parallel and their combinations, branch circuit calculations, feeder and service calculations and requirements, motor controls, low voltage systems and controls, review of Massachusetts code and Amendments, and learn various types of incandescent bases.

Electrical – Level IV
Instructor: Henry Valentini
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Electrical 4 will be a review of Electrical 1, 2 & 3. It will also cover extensive code questions and code table review questions, review circuit problems for AC/DC and help prepare the apprentice for taking the electrical exam.

Electrical – Masters – 150 hours
Instructor: Robert Desario
Tuesday & Thursday, 6:30-9:30 p.m.   $775
This Master’s course is designed to include Electrical Contractors, Electrical Inspectors, and qualified Licensed Electricians. This course study will include AC/DC theory, leading and lagging circuits, DC and AC motors and controls, as well as demand factor calculations for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. National Electrical Code Review, estimating & Massachusetts Master & System Contractor, Business & Law, Feeder & Service Calculations, Electrical Bonding & Ground Path Theory.
Review of all subjects covered in 600-hour Journeyman Course and job safety.

Electrical Journeyman’s Prep Course

Monday, 6-9 p.m. – 11 weeks    $300
This course will help provided insight and understanding of the National Electrical Code. It is designed as a refresher for those wishing to take the Journeyman or Master examination. The course will include Electrical Theory, Calculations and in-depth use of the code book. Meets 237CMR17.00 requirements.

HVAC / Refrigeration Licensing Course – 250 hours
Instructor:  Ron Stanley
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
This 2 year program is a comprehensive training program for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning installers and technicians.  Your will learn about air conditioning technology, refrigeration, electronics, heat transfer and programmable controls. 150 hours will be electrical code training.

ATTENTION PLUMBERS!
EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 2008
Massachusetts General Law has mandated that beginning in September 2008 all plumbing apprenticeship training programs approved by the state, must meet the same standards, and follow a common curriculum.

The new system will require 550 hours (110 hours each year) of classroom instruction plus 5 years on the job training.

Plumbing Tier I – 110 hours
Instructor:  TBA
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Introduction to plumbing: 10 hour OSHA safety card, materials, tools and methods, valves and devices, residential blueprints, math and definitions.

Plumbing Tier II – 110 hours
Instructor:  Dave McDonald, Jr.
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Introduction to drains, waste and vents, allowable material, traps, clean outs, code, water supply, math, gas, blueprints and definitions.

Plumbing Tier III – 110 hours
Instructor:  TBA
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Advanced instruction in vents, drains, water, storm, gas fixture instruction, blueprints, and definitions.

Plumbing Tier IV

Plumbing I – Only open to plumbers who have held an apprentice card prior to September 1, 2008
Instructor: TBA
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Complete explanation and interpretation of the Mass. Plumbing and Gas Fuel Code. Including design of plumbing drainage, venting, water distribution systems, gas design of piping, venting and testing. Explanation of installments of appliances and interpretation of Gas Fuel Code. Sizing of both plumbing and gas systems. Related mathematics, use of tables, charts regarding plumbing and gas design systems.
Total comprehensive explanation of all aspects of plumbing and gas codes with special regards to its basic principles needed for the trade.

Plumbing II – Only open to plumbers who have held an apprentice card prior to September 1, 2008

Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.
Preparation for Journeyman Plumbing Exam. Mass. Plumbing Code, introduction and explanation or National Fuel Gas Code. Plumbing math, water, drain and gas pipe sizing. Combustion air and mechanical exhaust for residential and commercial installations.

Plumbing Masters – 100 hours – 17 weeks
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m.   $700
This course is comprised of the following topics: code review and update, blueprint reading, plumbing math, business math, OSHA laws relating to plumbing, State and Municipal Bid Laws and Procedures, gas code review, plan review, single line, and isometrics and sketching. This course is designed to cover all questions, which have been included in recent Masters Examinations. In addition, ADA (American Disability Act) requirements relating to the plumbing code are included.

Plumbers Journey & Masters Exam Preparatory Course – 33 hours

This course is designed to review all aspects of the plumbing code and related information necessary to pass the Plumbers License Exam.  Plumbing math, code, science, indirect waste systems, roof drains, gas piping and water distribution systems will be covered.  Hours can no longer be used toward State required hours.

Plumbing:  Mandatory Continuing Education $100
This course is approved by the Plumbing Board of Examiners to fulfill the 6-hour per year of Continuing Education Requirement for plumbing license renewal.
