Aquatic Programs

Adult Learn to Swim     $175
Class starts Monday, January 23, 2012
Monday, 7:30-9 p.m. – 10 weeks
This course is designed for adults of all levels. Instructors are from the American Red Cross. Swimming skills will be taught to adults who cannot swim or have a fear of water. We also welcome swimmers who may want to learn or improve various swimming techniques. This class includes a 10 week, one-hour swim practice session on Wednesday evenings from 8–9 p.m.

Aqua-Robics     $150

Class starts Tuesday, January 24, 2012
Tuesday & Thursday, 6-7 p.m. – 10 weeks
A low impact water aerobic program, designed for adults consisting of non-weight bearing exercises.  This class is conducted in both the shallow and deep ends of the pool.  Float belts are worn during the deep water portion of the class. The program is highly effective for all individuals including those with physical conditions.  

Power Aqua-Robics     $150
Class starts Tuesday, January 24, 2012
Tuesday & Thursday, 7-8 p.m. – 10 weeks
For the water fitness enthusiast. This class will move a bit quicker than Aqua-Robics. Body moves to music with precision instruction for cardiovascular benefits, as well as muscular toning. This class is conducted in both the shallow and deep ends of the pool. Float belts are available for the deep water portion of the class. Before beginning any exercise program, you should consult your physician.

Child Learn to Swim     $150

Class starts Saturday, January 21, 2012
Saturday, 8a.m., 9a.m., 10a.m., 11a.m., 12:30p.m., or 1:30p.m. - 10 weeks
The child learn to swim program is offered on Saturdays for 50-minute lessons. All levels of swimming are taught during each session, including pre-beginner, beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate and swimmers. There will be an aide with the instructor for the pre-beginner classes. American Red Cross swimming skills are taught at each level.  NOTE: Children must be 4 years or older, toilet trained and no bubbles are allowed.

Mini-Child Learn to Swim     $75

American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Training  $375
Instructor: Mary Judge              
Class starts Tuesday, April 17 through April 21, 2012  8 a.m. – 4 p.m
This course is for first time people interested in being a lifeguard in any water facility except a water park. The course includes Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, and prevent drowning and injuries. Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15 and must be able to pass the designated swim pretest.  Maximum 10 students.
        
The Pretest consists of:
  *Swimming continuously 550 yards on the stomach without stopping.
    Strokes: Freestyle, breaststroke.
  *Diving to the bottom of the pool to retrieve an object.
  *Treading water for 5 minutes.
  *Demonstration of various swimming skills expected of a lifeguard candidate.  

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Training (WSI)  $375

Class starts Saturday, January 21, 2012

Saturday, 2-6 p.m. – 10 weeks
This course is designed to develop the skill and knowledge you will need to plan and teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program. This course includes Water Safety Instructor Training and Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT Training) required by the Red Cross for all Instructors. Prerequisites: You must be 16 years of age and be able to pass the designated swim pretest.

The Pretest consists of:
  *Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary Breaststroke, and Sidestroke - 25
    yards each. Butterfly stroke 15 yards.
  *Maintain floating or sculling position on your back for 1 minute in deep water.
  *Tread water for 1 minute.
