The Community Education staff encourages learners to utilize the tremendous facilities available in the areas of trade preparation. The tools and equipment combined with expert instruction promotes an excellent experience for beginners to advanced skill levels.

Cosmetology – 1000 hours – NEW!

M, T, W, TH, 6-9 p.m.     $10,000
Students will receive comprehensive training in all areas of cosmetology and related fields needed for the state board licensing examination and employment in the cosmetology industry.
The 2-year course will meet four nights per week from September through June and explore topics including: Bacteriology, Sterilization and Sanitation, Anatomy and Physiology, Skin and Nail Structure and Growth, Basic Chemistry and Electricity, Haircutting, Principals of Hair Design, Braiding, Wigs and Hair Enhancements, Hair Coloring, Chemical Texturizing, Facials, Make-up and Nail care. Kit and book included.
Cosmetology career opportunities include Hair Stylist, Manicurist, Salon Manager, Salon Owner, Make-Up Artist, Product Technician and Desairologist.

Manicuring – 100 hours

Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m. .  $1000
One-hundred-hour basic manicuring course that offers all the skills needed to pass the State board examination which includes the following: basic manicure, hand and arm massage, hot oil and paraffin wax treatments, a variety of nail and polish applications and anti-aging hand treatment. Also tip application as well as acrylic, gel and wrap procedures. Kit and book included.

Auto Damage Appraisal

The Auto Damage Appraisal class is designed to give the student with at least two years practical experience in the automotive or related industry a solid approach in knowing how to appraise a collision damaged motor vehicle. The course covers basic parts, terminology and description, front and rear suspension components, frames (both conventional and unitized) labor operations and painting, along with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Laws governing licensed appraisers and insurance companies.  This course is approved by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Insurance Appraisal Board, to be taught as a preparatory class. Pricing does not include books.

Auto Body – Repair

Monday, 6-9 p.m.     $175 plus materials
This course is designed for individuals attempting to improve their basic skills. Subjects covered include all aspects of sheet metal preparation and repair; application of plastic and fiberglass body fillers; preparing, mixing and spraying of automotive finishes including proper use of auto body hand tools and hydraulic equipment.

This course is designed for individuals attempting to improve their basic skills. Auto Mechanics – Basic

This basic introductory automotive course is designed to help the non-professional better understand how their car works. Learn basic maintenance and troubleshooting procedures. Topics will include basic fault data, brakes, suspension, engine, fuel, electrical, transmission and heating/air-conditioning systems.

Auto Mechanics – Advanced

Thursday, 6-9 p.m.    $175 plus materials
Learn hands-on repairs on your own or other students’ vehicles using professional automotive shop tools and equipment. All work is supervised by an ASE certified instructor. Students will focus on advanced diagnostic procedure.

Basic Home Improvement

Monday, 6-9 p.m. – 12 weeks   $320
Course includes basic wiring, plumbing and carpentry. This will provide you with a general overview for basic home improvement understanding.

Cabinetmaking – Basic

Thursday, 6-9 p.m.    $225 plus materials
Basic cabinetmaking is an introductory course to learn to layout, mill and assemble a project.  Students will learn how to work with various types of wood.  Instructions will include safety, descriptions and use of hand tools, machinery, and machines such as cutoff saw, band saw, sander, and planer.  Project plan will be provided by the instructor and students will supply their own materials.

Cabinetmaking – Advanced
Instructor: Ralph Greenberg
Tuesday, 6-9 p.m.    $225 plus materials
Advanced cabinetmaking consists of individual projects, instruction in the use of tools, and emphasis on safe work habits. Equipment used consists of table saws, jointer planer, lathe, router and various tools. Students will supply their own materials and have a project for the first class.

Prerequisite: Basic Cabinetmaking or a thorough knowledge of all woodworking machinery.

Construction Carpentry

Tuesday & Thursday, 6-9 p.m. Half Year, Fall Only $425
This course is for the student who desires to learn all the various aspects of the Carpentry trade. The curriculum will include safety, use of tools, framing, stock selection, window/door installation, siding, roofing, decks and much more. Classroom and in-shop instruction will be utilized to ensure that students understand each new carpentry/construction concept. This class can be used for required MA State Apprenticeship hours. No previous experience is necessary.

EPA Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair, and Painting – NEW! $200
Instructor: Armen Khodaverdian

The EPA requires that persons performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes, child care facilities and schools be certified by EPA.  Certified renovators who are trained by EPA-approved training providers must follow lead-safe work practices. Individuals can become certified renovators by taking this eight-hour training course from our EPA-approved training provider

OSHA Construction Safety & Health Course  $100

The OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety & Health Course is intended to provide entry level personnel general awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards in the construction industry. Instruction focus: hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention. Participants successfully completing the hourly and course requirements receive an OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety & Heath Course completion card. Early registration discount does not apply. Small Engine Repair
Instructor: Stephen Hanson
Monday, 6-9 p.m.    $175
Students will be trained in small engine repair such as; lawn mowers, snow blowers, chain-saws and weed whackers. Students will be required to supply their own equipment and parts each night, beginning the first night. Tools will be provided by the school.

Welding – Basic
Instructor: Butler/Russo
Monday, 6-9 p.m.    $520 includes materials
The basic welding course will include the theory of welding principles, practices, and shop demonstrations. Various welding processes pertaining to the curriculum will include: SMAW (stick welding), GTAW (Tig), GMAW (Mig), oxyacetylene welding, brazing, flame cutting and plasma cutting. Students must supply their own personal safety gear (helmet, safety glasses and gloves.)

Welding – Advanced
Instructor: William Williams
Thursday, 6-9 p.m.    $520 includes materials
Students will be allowed to focus on specific welding processes which the student wishes to master. The welding processes will be made available through small projects, stimulated job situations, and testing. Students must supply their own personal safety gear (helmet, safety glasses and gloves.)

Custom Motorcycle Welding & Fabrication
Instructor: Mike Amato
Thursday, 6-9 p.m.    $520
Develop the metalworking skills required to fabricate custom-built motorcycles. This course will introduce the students to tank stretching, bracket formation, fender mounting and customization. Skills involving TIG welding, MIG welding, plasma cutting, drilling, rolling and bending will be demonstrated by the instructor and then performed by the students. Note: Welding not allowed on used gas tanks.

Harley Maintenance & Performance Modification
Instructor: Peter Chambers
Tuesday, 6-9 p.m. – 11 weeks   $520
This course is designed to introduce students to the basic Harley-Davidson motorcycle maintenance and performance modifications. The curriculum will include oil changes, tune-ups, troubleshooting, wheel and belt replacement, routine maintenance, cam selection and installation, cylinder head, piston, ignition and modifications. Classes are taught by Peter Chambers, with 35 years of multi-brand motorcycle experience, a graduate of Harley-Davidson University with a PHD/Master of Service Technician status.
